Swirl the
Good Around
Sandy Willoughby
And whatsoever ye do, do [it] heartily, as to the
Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward
of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.” Colossians 3:23, 24
This is one of my favorite verses. It is almost sure
I've shared it in
previous writings bec/ it speaks to me.
Right now, I have a long and growing list of things
in need of being done
around here. There is a partial bag of Epsom salts
crunched on my desk from
my four year old, an ironing board doubling as a
pre-school sized desk with
a small chair close by and as far as I can see ---
there are things out of
place.
The scene I'm presenting isn't everywhere here and
surprisingly... there is
order there and about.
My kitchen sink is shining with a blue striped towel
folded neatly across.
The Master Plan Book lists I made are hand in hand
with Flylady's routines
(basically just making it fit my life, I guess) and
I am clawing me way up
this great homemaking cliff I call home.
That little engine that could seems to be puffing
far off in the distance
sometimes!
Lots of clothes on the line in southern heat has
good and bad points. The
dear and delightful things are: sun cleaned and
freshened clean and wift (my
own word perhaps?) of outside ear. The exercise is a
fantastic good since I
walk down a hill and up every load or two. The down
side of the hill:) is me
getting so hot I end up sweating every time and am
eaten alive by bugs if I
go out at dusk. As much laundry as we do ... it is
several times a day.
There is still nothing to compare the wind blown
sheets tucked around our
mattresses or the air sanitized clothes from head to
food. I shall be
thankful for these things and remember how futile
whining over the insignificant really is.
Nothing is more memorable than a smell. One scent
can be unexpected, momentary and fleeting, yet conjure up a childhood
summer beside a lake in the mountains... Diane Ackerman
There. A dear quote making me even more determined
to make the most of these
momentary and fleeting times. All too soon I will be
longing to hang load
and loads of laundry up, dance down the freshly mown
grass to the lines, and
run with the dogs all the way back up.
What about you? Are there bittersweet bits of your
homemaking where the few
dreary things try to make light of the magnificent
ones? Think about
cherishing them and all the memories they might be
making...
