Timothy's Letters, Updates & Photos from Ghana

O, Timothy

Our son Timothy is a missionary in Tarkwa, Ghana, West Africa.  He's working with Missionaries James and Francille Lucas for the sole purpose of bringing glory to the LORD by preaching the gospel and making disciples of Jesus Christ.  They are working to establish a missionary training school that will be self sustaining and will provide training for self-sufficiency.

The African resources are very great and yet, often the focus of humanitarian aid is short term and limited.  The goal of this mission is to come alongside local believers where they will be taught the Word, where they will gain proficiency in understanding both the Old and New Testaments, will be given training in productive work and shown how to use the natural and abundant African resources and above all to teach and minister to the lost, they will then naturally be more able to enter the unreached tribes and people groups with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

In the end, the goal for the school is that it will be fully operated by Africans and be completely self sustained.

"Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.  No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.  And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.

The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits.  Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things. "

 2Timothy2.1-7

Ministering unto the least of these...
Helping a helpless man... see the way.

Go ye into all the world...

And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:  Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Matthew 28.18-20

The following verses have been my prayer for Timothy as he began his life as a full-time Christian missionary.

2 Timothy 2.1-5

"F
or the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.  And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good?  But and if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled;  But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.

1Peter 3.12 - 16

"Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.  Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.  Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.  Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

The greatest gift the Lord has given his mother is to have a son
willing to, as Jim Elliot said, give up what he cannot keep
to gain what he cannot lose.  Praise the Lord.

So Send I You

So send I you to labor unrewarded,
To serve unpaid, unloved, unsought, unknown,
To bear rebuke, to suffer scorn and scoffing,
So send I you to toil for Me alone.

So send I you to bind the bruised and broken,
O'er wand'ring souls to work, to weep, to wake,
To bear the burdens of a world aweary-
So send I you to suffer for My sake.

So send I you - to loneliness and longing,
With heart a-hungering for the loved and known;
Forsaking home and kindred, friend and dear one,
So send I you - to know My love alone.

So send I you - to leave your life’s ambitions,
To die to dear desire, self-will resign,
To labor long and love where men revile you,
So send I you - to lose your life in Mine.

So send I you to hearts made hard by hatred,
To eyes made blind because they will not see,
To spend, tho' it be blood, to spend and spare not-
So send I you to taste of Calvary.

*After many years, Miss Clarkson added to the hymn, writing verses that reflected the trials, and the joys, of God’s call on the lives of his children. As she matured she recognized that she was sent out to minister to others, not in isolation, but in triumph.

So send I you - by grace made strong to triumph
O'er hosts of Hell, o'er darkness, death, and sin,
My name to bear, and in that name to conquer-
So send I you, My victory to win.

So send I you - to take to souls in bondage
The word or truth that sets the captive free,
To break the bonds of sin, to loose death's fetters-
So send I you, to bring the lost to Me.

So send I you - My strength to know in weakness,
My joy in grief, My perfect peace in pain,
To prove My pow'r, My grace, My promised presence -
So send I you, eternal fruit to gain.

So send I you - to bear My Cross with patience
And then one day with joy to lay it down,
To hear My Voice, "Well done, My faithful servant -
Come share My throne, my kingdom and My crown.

"As the Father hath sent Me..... so send I you."
