Here is a neat gift idea... more stuff in a jar... or twelve jars, that is.
This is a very helpful way to make a dozen jars at a time.
This is the shopping list and recipe for

Sand Art Brownies
Shopping list:
(You will not use up all the ingredients on this list.)
1 container salt
1 5 lb. bag of all-purpose flour
2 tins cocoa  powder
2 lb. brown sugar
1 5lb. bag granulated sugar
2 24 oz. bags semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 24 oz. bags white chocolate chips (or butterscotch, your choice)
2 medium sized bags walnuts, chopped

Line up the 12 mason jars  on a  table (you can even have your children join in to help).  Place each ingredient in the jars in the order given, being careful not to mix or stir it around, you want it to look layered, like sand art.

Sand Art Brownies
3/4 t. salt
1/2 + 1/8 c. flour
1/3 c. cocoa
1/2 c. flour
1/2 c. brown sugar
2/3 c. granulated sugar
1/2 c. chocolate chips
1/2 c. white chocolate, or butterscotch chips
1/2 c. walnuts

Make sure to pack the walnuts to the very top.  You don't want it to shift or settle.  Place the sealing round on top of the jars, then a 7" circle of pretty fabric appropriate for the occasion, then the screw-on lid.  Tie with raffia. *Make up a pretty tag with these instructions:*
Preheat oven to 375.  Empty contents of jar in a mixing bowl, add 3 eggs, 2/3 cup of vegetable oil and 1 t. vanilla extract.  Pour into greased and floured 9"x13" pan, and bake 25-30 minutes. Enjoy!

For Chocolate Chip Cookies you will need: A (*wide mouth*) quart mason jar, fabric and ribbon.

1/2 cup white sugar
1-1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
2 cups all-purpose flour

2 Enclose a card with the following mixing and baking directions:
3 Chocolate Chip Cookies Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
4 Sift dry ingredients through a colander to separate the chocolate
chips from other ingredients.
5 Beat 1 cup of unsalted butter or margarine in a medium bowl. Beat sifted ingredients into butter until blended.
6 In a small bowl, beat 1 egg with 1 teaspoon of vanilla.
7 Mix beaten egg mixture into butter mixture until blended. Stir in
